That has always annoyed the hell out of me. Does it have to sound that fancy? It makes me want to start saying The South of Central Los Angeles. Or The University of The South of California.

Up there, down there

One of my more stupid pet peeves is when people say “up there,” when referring to a place that is south of them, or vice versa. My friends in Connecticut do this all the time. “I have to get up there and see you one weekend.” No, you have to get DOWN here and see me one weekend. I’m south of you. You don’t hear people say “I’m from way up south.” Stop driving me fucking crazy.
