Many are prison doctors, dentists or nurses. Total compensation can be pushed higher by payouts for unused vacation and sick time. Last year, a prison doctor collected $777,423 and a dentist got $599,403.

They say this like it’s this huge problem, but honestly, if they have to pay market wages to get good medical care for the prisoners, then that’s what they have to do. I don’t think it’s so bad. I’m sure there are other better ways to cut costs than worrying about this.
